. the president is cutting his vacation short to face the fiscal cliff. is he leaving hawaii for washington tonight. if lawmakers don't come up with a deal before the deadline your tax refund could be delayed by months. we are live in the washington bureau to explain more. >> reporter: brian the irs said without a deal as many as 100 million taxpayers may be forced to wait until march to file their tax returns. congress has to vote on the wealth tax and it needs to be adjusted for inflation. both partisay they would agree to it but it's all tied up in the fiscal cliff mess. tax filing season starts next week but the irs would put a hold on that for some. officials would wait for a deal in the new year instead of doing serious reprogramming to their tax system. filing would then be pushed back to march for millions. with refunds coming much later than usual. especially for those who plan on paying off credit card bills that often pile up after the holidays. now all of this could be avoided a deal before the deadline monday night but some long time lawmakers fear it won't happen, more on that

the washington exit. everyone walked away from the crash. the chp says it began with a white honda, possibly hitting the center divide and losing its right front wheel. the family's car swerved to avoid the honda but lost control and ended up sideways. the big rig slowed down in time narrowly missing a major collision. two people in the honda, fled from the scene. police in palo alto are stepping up patrols in the downtown area after two recent attacks. ktvu's janine de la vega is in palo alto to tell us why police think these incidents may be connected. >> reporter: good morning, tori. police say these incidents happened around the same time in the morning, in the same geographical location here in the downtown corridor around the suspect description is somewhat similar. people we spoke to heard about the incidents and say they are trying to be more aware of their surroundings. this first incident happened on sunday, after 1:00 in the morning on homer avenue. a woman was walking and listening to music with headphones on and she was jumped from behind and pushed to the ground by a man. he tr

numbers came out. ktvu alison burns reports from our washington, d.c. newsroom more jobs were added in november than the economists predicted. alison. >> reporter: dave, 146,000 jobs were added in november. that is twice as many as economists were expecting as for the unemployment rate it also improved. it's at 7.7% down from 7.9%. that is the lowest unemployment rate in four years. now economists thought the fallout from hurricane sandy would play a big role the labor department says it really didn't effect hiring. as for fiscal cliff fears would keep businesses from around the country from hiring that does not seem to be the case. either more than half of the jobs added last month came in retail and health care. the jobs were lost in construction and manufacturing. we're working now to get reaction from the white house and members of congress and hope to have that for you during my next update. reporting live from washington, d.c. alison burns. >>> time now 6:17. another story about controversial comedian katt williams. he has more legal problems after announcing he has unreported

washington. the school the building itself is being worked on. remember i told you we had a secondary crime scene of the exterior of the school. our detectives have every one of them searching every one of them. we are beginning to release those back to their owners. slowly but surely we're beginning to complete the exterior part of the crime scene. the governor and lieutenant governor are on site that have been actively involved. one thing that is becoming somewhat of a concern and that is miss information is being posted on social media sites. there has been miss information coming from people posing as the shooter in this case, posing using other id's. mimicking this crime and crime scene and activity that took place in this community. there has been some things in somewhat of a threatening manner. it is important to know that we have discussed with federal authorities that these issues are crimes. they will be investigated statewide and federally. and prosecution will take place when people are identified. again, all information relative to this case is coming from these microphones and
